Adapter to Allow Towing 5th Wheel Trailer with Truck That Has Draw-Tite Gooseneck Hitch

Question:

I have a 2002 Jayco Designer Legacy RLTS 3610 with a Leland Engineering AF 7910 pin box and the standard fifth wheel coupler. I have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Dually with a Draw Tite Remov-A-Ball gooseneck, which I like. Why doesnt Reese make a adapter plate for this like the flip ball Hide-A-Goose? Could a post be machined for the Remov-A-Ball to fit the fifth wheel adapter that is used for the Hide-A-Goose? What are my best options here without large cash outlays? I am concerned about pin box failure as Jayco said no adapters. Thank you in advance for your efforts to assist me.

If you have a Draw-Tite gooseneck hitch # 9465-45 installed in your 3500, then you'll need another type of adapter to pull your Jayco 5th wheel. Draw-Tite Gooseneck-to-5th-Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # 9480 is the next best option as it introduces minimal stress.

The best solution for towing a 5th wheel trailer with a truck that has a gooseneck hitch installed is to swap out the trailer pin box for a Reese Goose Box coupler. Reese offers these as bolt-on replacements for several brands and models of pin box, and they cause no extra stress on the coach frame. But unfortunately your Leland AF7910 is not one of the pin boxes that they support with a replacement. Their Goose Box couplers are made for the most common OEM pin boxes.
