Can 2016 Honda Pilot Rear Hatch Be Opened with Trunk Mount Bike Rack Installed

Can the hatch be opened once the bike rack is mounted?

I have a solution for you, but trunks/hatches cannot be opened with a trunk mount bike rack installed. There are several reasons for this. First, the hinges/struts are not meant to support additional weight so it can cause the hatch/trunk lid to fall unexpectedly. Second, the geometry of the gap where the bike rack hooks fit will change. The hooks are solid steel and this can end up bending the vehicle's sheet metal. And third, opening the hatch/trunk will affect how the bike rack fits after closing the hatch/lid which can result in loss of bike rack.
If you had a 2016 Honda Pilot then you could install trailer hitch # e98840. Then you could use the Vertex, # TH9027XT. This bike rack swings off to the side, with or without the bikes loaded, allowing you to open the rear hatch. I have linked videos on the hitch and bike rack for you.
