Does Axle Need To Be Replaced If Inner Race From A Blown Bearing Is Attached To Welded On Spindle
Question:
I went to replace the bearing and on one side the inner race of the bearing is permanently mounted to the spindle and the spindle is welded on. It is the inner race of the blown out bearing on the spindle. No doubt about it! Do I need a new axle?

Many times a new axle is the way to go if you have reason to replace one of the spindles. You may find that since you have the axle out of the trailer, or have to have someone remove it and repair it, that the cost will be about the same or just slightly more to replace the axle with a new one.
When replacing the axle you will want to make sure and get the axle with the correct weight capacity for the trailer it is going on.
Replacing the spindle on your axle will require cutting the old spindle off and welding a new spindle in its place. You would need to find a certified welder so that he has the proper tools and welding equipment to make the repair.
To figure out which spindle is correct for your trailer you can use the bearing part numbers, both inner and outer, axle weight capacity and the shape and length of the spindle stub on your trailer.
The bearing numbers will let you cross reference the correct spindle measurements for your hub. The axle stub shape and length will allow you to use the same mounting position as the original spindle.
You will also want to check the hub to make sure it did not get damaged from the bearing going out. If you need a new hub you will need to know the bolt pattern on your wheels to get the correct hub.
I am sending a link to the different sizes of spindles that are available.
