Dual Hitch Accessory For Carrying Bike Rack and Towing Trailer

Question:

Hi, Am looking at purchasing this: MT70070 I have a 1999 coleman pop up trailer at about 2400lbs loaded, and a 2013 Jeep grand Cherokee with towing capacity of 7200lbs. If I get this dual hitch and use a thule bike rack in the top receiver and a curt 8inch ball mount in the lower receiver for the trailer will it be safe? I see from others that you do not recommend? Thanks.

Instead of the MT70070 I have a much better solution that would be ideal for you. The part # D210 has a hitch opening on the top for an accessory like a bike rack and then has a ball mount platform on the bottom. Since this isn't a hitch adapter you don't end up losing hitch capacity.

i am looking for an adapter that will allow me to mount myThule dual bike rack to my RV while still being able to tow my Jeep cherokee.

The Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount # D210 that Jameson suggested is your best option. Your Thule rack would slide into the top receiver and the lower ball mount platform would be used for the trailer. Just note that this WILL cut your hitch's capacity in half (Curt recently changed their stance on this) but I would think the RV has capacity to spare. Just be sure the combined tongue weight of the carrier and trailer doesn't exceed the reduced limit on the hitch.
