Can a Used Programmer be Installed on a 2001 Ford F-250/F-350 7.3 Liter Diesel

Question:

My son gave me an edge 15000 tuner that he said a friend took off his truck. I have never used a tuner and am looking to purchase one. How can I tell if the tuner even works without hooking it up to my truck. If the program is still on the other truck will if damage anything on mine if I plug it up. Any advice would be great.

The way that programmers work is that they can only be paired with one vehicle at a time. The original truck would need to be returned to stock using the programmer. Then the programmer can be moved to another compatible vehicle. But to get it to work with that vehicle you would need to call Edge and re-register the product for a fee. This is done so one programmer can't be passed around for free to a bunch of people.

My advice to you is to get a new programmer because it will have more and better features and you won't have to worry about the condition of it like you would with a used programmer.
