Replacement Weight Distribution Shank for Reese Strait-Line System
Question:
Hi, I had purchased RP66074 from you, along with RP54970 trunnion for my 2011 Tundra. I have purchased a 2015 Chevy 2500 HD and the hitch sets quite a bit higher and the RP54970 cannot be set low enough to hook up the trailer. I think I need to buy RP 3215 to get the added to set my hitch up for towing my Airstream. The ball height needs to be 19 3/4 inches, presently with the ball set all the way down in the RP54970, it is still about 3 inches too high. I think the RP 3215 will get it down to where it needs to be, what do you think? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
Reese weight distribution shank # RP54970 provides 1-1/4-inches of drop when used with trunnion style bars like those in the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution system # RP66074. It sounds like you need a shank that will give you more like 4 or 5-inches of drop.
Pro Series, sister brand to Reese, offers their shank # RP63971 which provides 4-3/4-inches of drop when used with trunnion style bars. Reese part # RP3215 will also provide enough drop but it's overall height of 12-inches will reduce ground clearance more than the Pro Series shank.
