Service Electric Brake System Light on a 2008 Chevy Silverado with Factory Brake Controller

It sounds like you have the factory integrated brake controller on your 2008 Chevy Silverado. That error code might be popping up if there is a short. Check the truck and trailer (if connected) side trailer connectors. Make sure that they are clean and free of corrosion and moisture inside, where the wires attach, and outside on the pins.
If it is happening with a trailer connected then there could be a problem with the wiring to the trailer brake magnets or the magnets are bad. I have linked a help article that explains how to test magnets.
If the error is still coming up then I recommend a Chevy dealer take a look at it.
