15 mm Thru Axle Adapter Recommendation that Can Lock to Roof Bike Rack

Question:

I am in need of a 15 mm Thru Axle Adapter for my roof racks and reviewed three of your good videos and I have a question about how the bike fork is locked on the rack. In the Thule video at 2:11 it states that it locks it all together...bike to adapter, and in the Rocky Mounts video at 3:28 it states ...locked...prevent anyone from removing bike from bike rack...inch and finally in the Yakima video at 1:48 it states inch lock...er attach.... I am just curious why the 15 mm skewer could not be removed just as easily as it was installed in each video and then the bicycle is vulnerable to removal and theft. Possibly I will see the method use after purchasing and since you are making the claim that it is locked i should trust that, but I just wanted to clarify in advance. There is no mention in either of the three videos of needing any additional locks or hardware. Thank you very much.

This is a great question. Sounds like you are trying to determine which of the 15 mm adapters will allow you to actually lock the bike to the roof rack.

Of the three you mentioned the only one that actually locks the bike to the adapter and then the adapter to the roof bike rack is the RockyMounts part # RKY1081. The rest are only adapters that allow the bike to fit the rack, but when our demo guy says the word lock he means it is clamped to the rack. Not locked like "theft-deterrent". This would be the adapter I would recommend for you with the bike rack Tie Rod part # RKY1012 that you see in the video.
