Cushioned Pin Box Recommendation for a Lippert 1621 Pin Box on a Cougar 29RET Xlite
Question:
I have a cougar 29ret xlite 5th wheel w/ a lippert 1621 pin box. would like to replace to help w/ chucking and porpoising while driving. Read a lot of your q and as already but still would like to hear your thoughts. i pull w/ a pullrite super glide hitch and already had to purchase a capture plate to fit the lippert 1621. i had to raise the hitch w/ their 3 in lift so i would clear the walls on my truck 2014 chevy 2500hd w/ 6ft bed. After doing this, my trailer seemed to ride at an angle higher in front so i lowered pin box to lowest hole and swapped out the 15 in tires w/ 16in which i purchased the rims from you. I guess my question is, which pin box? the ones i see you recommending seem to have a lower angle than my current lippert 1621 which would help the angle of trailer, but might not clear truck side walls all the way. Next question, what capture plate from pull rite would i have to purchase or would the one i have work w/ the next pin box?

For a cushioned pin box to replace your Lippert 1621 the TrailAir Flex Air part # LC328492 would be a great option. This is made by Lippert will help with both vertical and longitudal chucking.
With this pin box the overall height from the top of the mounting bracket to the bottom of the king pin is 19-9/16 inches. You would need to compare that to what you currently have, but typically when the pin box is inflated to the recommended air pressure it will be a couple inches higher.
You will want to have at least 6 inches from the bed rails of your truck to the overhang of the trailer so that you have clearance. You may need to change the bolt hole setting on the pin box and/or change the head height of the hitch to accomplish this while still allowing the trailer to be towed level.
You will need to verify this with Pullrite (since we do not carry their products), but you should end up needing the capture plate 331758.
