Tips for Removing Stuck Gooseneck Hitch Ball

Question:

Hello there, I have a Curt gooseneck hitch on my 2006 Dodge Ram. I cant get the ball out. I cant even get the keeper pin to pull out. Please tell me what to do. I have sprayed WD40 on it and that has not helped at all. What should I do?

The first thing you will need to do is apply liberal amounts of spray lubricant to all of the moving parts that seem stuck. Sometimes it helps to apply some, wait an hour or so and apply more and then do whatever it takes to pry the ball out.

If you can access the bottom of the hitch from underneath the truck bed try hitting it with lubricant from that angle as well. You may also be able to get a decent amount of force applied from here as well to get the hitch out.

The more lube from all angles the better basically. Allowing it to soak in helps a lot too. Using a mallet to give the set up a couple decent whacks will also help get the ball to break free too.
