Hopkins Plug in Simple Brake Controller Wiring Harness Installation on a 2001 Chevy Silverado Z71

Question:

I just bought the Hopkins controller # 47294 and the controller cable # 47795. It does not have a factor towing package. Where does the red wire go? I am a bit confused. This is supposed to be plug in simple.

Installation of the Hopkins Plug-in Simple Brake Wiring Adapter - GM, item # HM47795, requires that the red wire, that is left loose to accommodate different year model Chevrolet wiring, be inserted in one of two positions. Your truck will require that the red wire be installed in slot A on the connector, which is the correct position for 1999-2002 Chevrolet vehicles. Slot A is the top right position with the connectors blue locking tab up and the side the wires go into is facing you.

For 2003-2006 Chevrolet vehicles the red wire must be inserted in slot D on the adapter, which is the bottom left position when the blue locking tab is up and the side the wires go into is facing you.

To complete the Hopkins Agility Electric Brake Controller, item # HM47294 installation on a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Z71 without the towing package you will also need the Pollak 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector Socket w/ Wiring Harness and Mounting Bracket, item # PK11898, or if the truck has a round plug with a cap instead of a bundle of wires above the spare tire, use the Replacement Multi-Tow 7-Way and 4-Way Trailer Connectors for Ford, GM Trucks with Factory 7 Way, item # 30955, instead of the # PK11898.
