Replacement Axle/Suspension for 4X8 Utility Trailer

Question:

Hello, I have a 4X8 utility trailer with 12 in wheels, they are 4-80-12s. I want to put 14 in wheels on it. Do you have an axle/hub configuration that will work with the wider tires and not rub the frame of the trailer? I would prefer a 5 bolt pattern. My axle is 48 in at the hangers and 60 in face to face. I will be buying new wheels and tires to match the new hub pattern. Thank you.

In order to put larger wheels/tires on your 4 X 8 utility trailer you may need to change out other components, such as the axle, in order to have the required clearance between the tire and trailer frame. Please note that changing the wheels/tires to a larger size and/or with a higher weight rating will not increase the trailer's weight carrying capacity.

We do offer longer axle kits that would have the spindles extend further from the outside edges of the trailer, such as # 20545I-EZ-72-15, but this kit's spring centers are too far apart for your 4X8.

A better option for you is a Timbren axle-less suspension system. These bolt right on to the trailer frame for increased ground clearance, lower deck height (for easier loading and unloading) and reduced roll during cornering. Kit # A20RS545 is rated for 2,000-lbs and includes idler hubs with bearings, races, seals, etc in the 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern.

The Timbren Axle-Less suspension system may require additional support on your trailer. If your trailer does not have a cross member above the spot where you want to install the Timbren system, you may need to reinforce the frame. Standard 2-inch square steel tubing is perfect for this.

I included a link to our main page for trailer tire/wheel products in the 14-inch size and with the 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern.
