Recommended 4-Bike Carrier For 2014 Honda Odyssey

Question:

Hi, I am looking to replace a Buyers bike rack that bounces and sways horribly even with 4 extra ratchet straps holding it down. We have a 2014 Honda Odyssey with a Curt 2inch Hitch, the receiver is pretty much flush with the bumper and we have to have an extension in or this rack hits the bumper before the locking pin can go in. Im sure thats where some of the bounce comes from. Above almost all else, can you recommend something that is as secure as possible. We almost have a heart attack every time we hit the smallest bump : We carry mountain bikes. Thank you

When selecting a hitch-mounted bike rack for your 2014 Odyssey, clearance is an important factor. For the hitches we offer that fit the 2014 Odyssey we found that the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the rear bumper is about 6-1/4 inches so you will want a bike carrier with at least 7 inches so it avoids contact with the vehicle.

The Thule Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR, has plenty of clearance from the bumper on your Odyssey with 13-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the upright bar of the bike rack. It has a weight capacity of 35-lbs per bike and features anti-sway arms that hold the bikes steady at 3 points. This carrier also has an anti-sway strap that helps keep the bikes from moving in the carrier. I have attached a link to an installation video of this carrier on a 2014 Odyssey you can check out.

If you are planning on carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.
