Recommended Class S Tire Cables For 2003 Honda CR-V
Question:
Tire chains or cables for 2003 Honda CR-V Tire size P205/70/R15 Occassional / Emergency Use What are my options for 2003 Honda CR-V? The owners manual indicates Class S Cable-Type for the front, no mention on the rear. I was looking at Thule XG12 Pro 225 or Glacier Cable PW1034. I really like the install/tension of the XG12. Is the cable-typeinch mandatory? Would the XG12 fit properly on the front? Only the rear? What is best for AWD? Thank you.

I researched the CR-V owner's manual and found the same information you said you found. It clearly states you can use 'S' rated cables but not chains on your front tires.
The cables I recommend for your Honda are the Titan Chain Cable Snow Chains, part # TC1034. These have a ladder pattern steel rollers, which gives you a smoother ride than typical chains do.
To make sure the cables stay secure on the wheels I recommend using tire chain adjusters like part # TCMA2.
As a rule of thumb, we tell customers that the chains should be placed on the drive wheels. If you have a front wheel drive then the chains go on the front. If the vehicle is a 4-wheel drive they are often placed on the rear wheels, but chains can be used on both the front and rear of the vehicle. If you have traction control, it is recommended to disengage the T/C and place the chains on the drive wheels.
