How to Pick Out a Thule Roof Cargo Box that Will Allow Rear Hatch to Open

Question:

I seem to be having a really hard time finding the right system to put on my 2012 Honda CRV. the vehicle has a factory rack with crossbars but I was wanting to add a aftermarket crossbar system to lift up the mounting points so I can put a cargo box on the vehicle long enough for skis and still open the back of the vehicle. I have been very frustrated trying to find a solution. any suggestions? My Husband suggested putting a basket on top and then mounting the cargo box to the top of that but I am not even sure if I can do that? please help!

I may have a solution for you, but we do not carry any roof racks for your 2012 Honda CR-V. In order to pick out a cargo box that will allow the rear hatch of your vehicle to open you will need to take one measurement.

You will need to slide your front crossbar as far forward as possible (it it's adjustable), and then you will need to measure from the center of the bar to the seam of the rear hatch.

With that info check out the picture I attached. In the far right column is the front clearance dimension each box requires. If the measurement you took is greater than the numbers in that column the corresponding cargo box will fit without issue.

I attached a link to a page that has all of the Thule cargo boxes mentioned in that picture for you to check out once you know what you need.
