The Curt Front Mount Trailer Receiver, item # 31042, is designed to fit the 1997 Chevy K3500 4wd model vehicle that is not a factory cab and chassis design. The 34 inch measurement is taken from the outside of the frame to the outside of the frame.
The easiest way to determine if the Curt Front Hitch for the 1997 Chevrolet C/K Series 4wd Pickup, item # 31042, is to measure the bolt mounting holes across the frame, center to center. This measurement is 30-1/2 inches for this front mount receiver.
