Troubleshooting Error On Prodigy P2 When Breakaway Battery is Connected

Question:

I just replaced the12v 5amp battery in my breakaway system, and when I connected the terminals I saw a small spark which i thought might indicate a problem. I checked the breakaway by pulling the pin out of the switch and trying to pull the trailer and determined that the breakaway system was operating correctly However, after looking at my Prodigy P2 I saw an error message 5H. and the trailer brakes are inoperative. Disconnected breakaway battery and error code on prodigy disappeared. Any idea what I should do to resolve this problem. Thanks,

It sounds like your breakaway pin isn't pushed all the way in. You can check this with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to see if there is power on the wire coming from the breakaway going to the trailer's brakes. If the pin is inserted correctly, you should have power going in the switch but not coming out.

If you continue to have problems, I would be more than happy to continue to troubleshoot this issue with you.
