Do Transmission Coolers Affect Cooling Capacity of Radiator
Question:
Hello i have a 2003 trailblazer with a 4.2L motor i looking to put in a tranny cooler the Derale 13105 Series 7000 i see from you site that it fits but one thing that got me thinking because of its size in front of the main engine rad the heat from the tranny cooler will be pushed through the main engine rad and will that rise the temp of the main engine coolant also. Thank you.

Expert Reply:
Putting a transmission cooler in front of the radiator will very slightly reduce the cooling capacity of the radiator that is on the vehicle. However, most radiators are more than adequate for the vehicle they are installed on so when you reduce their efficiency it goes unnoticed since the radiator was overkill for the vehicle.
