Installation Position for Gooseneck Hitch in 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD LTZ
Question:
Hi, I have a 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD LTZ long bed and would like to know the best placement for the gooseneck hitch in the bed of the truck. I want to be sure to avoid a problem my sister has with her Ford 250 where she has to close the tail gate at some point during hooking up to avoid hitting the trailer! But I understand that the hitch should not be behind the rear axle. Can you help?

In general a gooseneck hitch ball when installed in a long bed truck like your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD LTZ will be positioned just over to slightly forward of the rear axle's centerline.
For example, with the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck # BWGNRK1012, the first item shown on the linked page of gooseneck hitch fits for your truck, the ball hole should be 49-1/2-inches from the rear edge of the truck bed in a long bed like yours. The linked install video shows the process in a 2015 Silverado 2500 and the written instructions are linked as well. The B&W system offers the advantage of being easily converted to a 5th wheel hitch by addition of the Companion hitch # BWRVK3500.
The exact hitch install point can vary slightly between the different hitch products that fit your truck.
