Question:
Product 23-458 After installing break assembly how do you make the initial break adjustment by rotating the wheel to the front or back or do you have to use the star adjuster or can you just back up the trailer to adjust. One vidio says just to rotate wheel til there is a drag and one says to use the star adjust ment. Or will they automatically adjust while pulling the traiiler can you help me with this

Helpful Expert Reply:
Nev-R-Adjust drum brakes like Dexter # 23-458 and # 23-459 will self-adjust but initially you will need to make a manual adjustment using the star wheel and a brake adjustment tool # W80630. The initial tension setting you do manually should result in friction on the wheel you can hear and feel as you rotate the tire.
After the initial adjustment you wont need to do any more adjustments because as you back up the trailer this will apply tension on the cable. In turn that cable will activate a lever which will automatically set the star wheel to the correct position to apply the right pressure on the shoes inside the drum.
Last but not least, thank you for all of your orders with etrailer.
