It is easy to convert the 4-pole flat trailer connector on your 2014 Ford F-150 to a 7-way RV style for use with a trailer that has electric brakes.
Since your 4-pole was factory installed (the truck comes with either a 4-pole or a 7-way standard from the factory) you'll just need part # 37185 to convert the 4-pole to a 7-way. The wires for the additional 12V power, reverse light and trailer brake circuits are already run on the truck and should be tucked up above the bumper. You'll plug in the 4-pole to the 37185 and then make the additional circuit connections to complete the 7-way installation. A circuit tester like # PTW2993 will allow you to confirm the function carried on each wire before you make those connections to the 37185.
Your chosen brake controller will connect to an under-dash port on the truck. Among the easiest to use and reliable controllers we offer is the Prodigy P3 # 90195. This proportional controller will slow your trailer in direct proportion to the deceleration of your truck (for less tug-of-war between the two) and it includes many user-friendly features like built-in diagnostics, automatic leveling and 5 storable settings you can recall as needed. You'll connect the P3 to the truck's port using wiring adapter # 22292. An install video is linked for you.
