Compatibility of Pewag Cable Chains on a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder with 255/75R17 Sized Tires
Question:
I have a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder with wrangler takeoffs size 255/75R17. am looking at the PW1042 and the PW2029C. Both appear similar except the first says its for vehicles with limited wheel clearance SAE Class 5. Can you clarify the difference and which would be a better choice? Thanks,

I can help you understand SAE Class S and get you setup with the right chains for your 255/75R17 tires.
Since you have a different size tire, you would want to search by that instead of your 2009 Nissan Pathfinder. I have included a link to that page for your convenience. I went ahead and linked the page with all the tire chains that will fit that size tire and another to narrow down to the style of cable chains you had referenced.
The # PW1042 and # PW2029C are not fits for this tire size per Pewag, the manufacturer, instead they have # PW3027C being the custom fit cable tire chain size for your tire. With both tire chains will need the use of an adjuster # PW105 to grip properly to the tire.
SAE Class S tire chains are designed for use on vehicles with restricted wheel well clearance. Certain newer cars, vans and small trucks, especially those with large, aftermarket tires, may require the use of Class S chains. These chains will fit your tires provided there is both:
•A - a minimum of 1.46" (37 mm) between the top of the tire tread and the wheel well
•B - at least 0.59" (15 mm) between the tire's sidewall and the vehicle itself
Not all tire chains are tested to this standard. It is possible, therefore, that a chain with a 15-millimeter clearance or smaller will fit your limited-clearance vehicle even if the chain does not have a Class S designation.
Even though these are not your factory tires, you will want to consult your vehicles owners manual to check to see if there are any restrictions for the use of tire chains.
