Snow Chain Recommendation for a 2015 BMW X3 with 245/45-19

Question:

I need tire chains for 2015 BMW X3 with 19inch wheels. The manual recommends no chains but here in California we sometimes are required to use chains even if we have AWD. There is a vehicle clearance problem with some chain sizes it seems. What Thule chains will safely work on this vehicle. Looks like Thule is the easiest to install but I am open to other suggestions. Thanks

What tire size do you have? If you have the 245/45-19 the best chance you have for a set of tire chains would be the Thule K-Summit part # TH02230K44. Unlike most chains these require zero inner tire clearance since they do not drape over the inner sidewall of the tire at all so they are great for vehicles that do not have much clearance. These also do not touch the rims like other chains do.

While we can't recommend you use chains on a vehicle that the manufacturer states they can't be used on we do recommend you check with the manufacturer to see what they recommend you do. If you show them how the K-Summit chains install they might say it's okay. I would check with a dealer in the California area that requires the chains as they will be familiar with the requirement and will know what would be best.
