Can 5th Wheel Hitch Be Installed Over WeatherTech TechLiner Drop-In Bed Liner WT38209
Question:
I want to purchase Weathertech WT38209 truck bed mat for my 2015 Ford F350 short bed with factory step gate but I have a fifth wheel hitch rail and not sure if the rail would damage the mat

Helpful Expert Reply:
5th wheel hitch base rails require direct metal-to-metal contact with your truck's bed. It is possible to install a 5th wheel hitch on a truck that has a drop-in bed liner like the WeatherTech # WT38209 but it is necessary to cut out openings in the liner to allow the rails to directly contact the bed's corrugated surface.
A utility knife and a straight edge will make the trimming easier and cleaner. Just position the base rail in it's correct location according to the maker's instructions and trim around it to create the opening for installing it to your bed.
Trucks that have a spray-in liner CAN have a 5th wheel hitch installed without any additional steps.
