Recommendation for a Cargo Carrier on a SUV with a 2 Inch Class III Hitch

Question:

Hi I am interested in a cargo carrier for the back of my SUV. I have a class III hitch. Do you still need trailer lights to use these? Are these DOT certified? Thanks

Good news, I can help you with you get your cargo carrier set up and ready for traveling.

I recommend the etrailer 24 inch by 60 inch Cargo Carrier # e98874 for your Class III 2 inch hitch.

The only time you will need to add lights or a license plate bracket is if your cargo blocks either your vehicles taillights or license plate. We offer a light kits like # e98943-44LED it comes with everything you need including mounting brackets, and license plate relocation brackets # LP10SB if your setup does require one.

As long as you stay within the weight capacity of your vehicle, your hitch, and add lights or license relocation bracket if necessary, you should be DOT compliant. You will want to search for the DOT specifications/laws for your specific state.

One other thing I would recommend getting is a hitch lock for the cargo carrier to be secured to the vehicle like # e99047, this hitch lock comes with an anti rattle feature.

I have linked a few videos for you to check out how these products work for your convenience.
