Using a Weight Distribution System to Level a 2006 Toyota Tacoma and Cargo Trailer

Question:

I need to raise the rear of my 2006 Tacoma plus support the sag after I hook up to a 6x12 cargo trailer. I put a 2 and half inch spacer in front for bigger wheels and tires. Now I feel like Im reclineing and everyone thinks my lights are on bright. So air bags or? Thank You

The best way to reduce sag at the rear of a vehicle when towing a trailer is to use weight distribution. I recommend a system that has built-in dual cam sway control to prevent trailer sway before it starts.

For the right sized system, you will need to know the tongue weight and gross trailer weight of the trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow. For example, if the tongue weight of the trailer is 400 pounds, you would need a system with a 200 to 600 pound tongue weight capacity. You want the tongue weight to be right in the middle of the weight distribution systems range. In this scenario, the Reese Round Bar Strait-Line Hitch with Shank, # 66086, would be ideal for a trailer with 400 pounds of tongue weight and weighing under 10,000 pounds.

Adding air suspension enhancement might help a little but they are designed for ride comfort, absorbing road shock, and improving roll stability and not for raising the rear of the truck. For that, you would need a suspension lift. I also recommend checking with your owners manual to determine the towing capacity of your Tacoma and do not exceed it. A loaded trailer that is too heavy can also cause sagging problems. The larger tires and wheels at the front of the truck will not help with the sag at the rear.

I have included a link to the installation details for this system as well as an FAQ on weight distribution.
