What Kind Of Tire Chains Will Work on 2005 Chevy Tahoe 265/70-16

Question:

My manual states not to use chains for my P265/70R16 tire, but I wasnt sure if that also included cables? I have asked multiple people w/out any good answer. We are driving from Sacramento to Idaho for Christmas and worried about driving over the summit w/out chains.

I have a solution for you, but since the owner's manual states that there is not enough clearance to use tire chains on your 265/70-16 size tire, cables will fall into that restriction as well. The clearance will be an issue at the back of the tire between the tire and suspension components. Using any type of chain or cable that secures around the back side of the tire could cause damage to the vehicle.

We have one tire chain option that will fit the 265/70-16 size tires on your 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe without any part of the chain going around the back of the tire, the Thule Premium Self-Tensioning Snow Tire Chains, Diamond Pattern, D-Link, K-Summit XXL # TH02230K77. These chains install in the vehicle's tire tread and are fastened to the wheel bolt or lug nut, requiring no attachments behind the wheel. The dual-sided D-shaped links help increase tractions while the icebreaker reinforcements help bust apart ice.

I have attached a video of this style chain in a similar size showing the features and installation.
