Does Titan Trailer Coupler, # T4819900, Need A Solenoid Valve When Trailer Is In Reverse

Question:

How do you use reverse on this model, is there a lever you switch to disable the brake. Or do I need to buy a separate solenoid. If so do I use a NO or NC valve, if connect to back up light? I assume it would be NC, bu t I do not how these work inside.

On the Titan Trailer Coupler, # T4819900, you need to add a separate solenoid to disable the brakes when traveling in reverse.

You will want to use the Titan Solenoid Valve with Fittings for Reverse Lockout, # T4748800, which is a normally open valve. It is internally grounded so you just have the one wire to attach to the reverse light circuit.

The difference is the normally open lets the brake fluid still circulate through the brake lines, where as the normally closed valve would return the brake fluid back to the master cylinder. With the normally closed you would have to tap into the master cylinder, which requires a harder installation than the normally open.

The Titan Trailer Coupler, # T4715400, is to be used with free backing brakes. Free Backing brakes are brakes that the front shoe will not apply when your trailer is being put in reverse, which gives minimal braking in reverse. If you do not have free backing brakes you will need the Titan Trailer Coupler, # T47154207K, which includes the solenoid and a solenoid cover.
