1997 Chevy Silverado CK2500 4x4 Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit Recommendation
Question:
I have 1997 Chevy Silverado CK2500 4x4 and am looking into buying at least a 30ft 5th wheel, I do have the tow package on it but no hitch at this time, I live in Portland, Oregon and would like to eventually find this perfect fit in an rv but want to make sure that I can safely tow it with my truck to NM. It will need a brake and suspension job prior to this transaction but would like to know if and how much weight that I will be able to pull. It is in top notch condition and I believe that it has the 5.2 or 5.7??? engine. I keep seeing K2500 not CK and thats what my title says. If you could recommend a hitch package and weight that I could safely town it would be greatly appreciated. I will probably be doing this solo so I need to be sure that I will be safe as I am a middle aged woman.

There are many variables that will determine your towing capacity. But the first place to check is the owners manual after you determine the engine size of your truck.
We do carry the products you would need to tow a fifth wheel trailer though. For a fifth wheel rail kit you would need the part # RP30035. This will install in the bed of your truck and will provide the attachment point for a fifth wheel hitch.
If you have a short bed truck you will need a slider hitch so that when you take tight turns you would have enough clearance between the cab and the overhang of the trailer to prevent interference. For a slider hitch the part # RP30051 would do an excellent job. This hitch has a 16k capacity and a slider that will give you 10 inches of additional clearance when slid back.
If you have a long bed truck you would not need a slider hitch. In that case the # RP30047 would be a great option. This hitch also has a 16k capacity, but since you wouldn't need a slider this hitch has fixed legs instead.
