Recommendation for Dual Receiver on a 2012 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

2012 toyota 4runner. Would like to use dual extension: top receiver for bike rack, bottom to pull 17foot Casita. Or is the dual receiver not for towing?

I can help you figure out if using the dual receiver will work for you.

The use of a dual receiver like the Curt # D-192 will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch on your Toyota 4Runner by 50 percent. So if your hitch was rated for 500TW/5,000lbsGTW. that would take the weight capacity down to 250/2,500lbs. If the combined weight of the bike carrier and the trailer tongue weight exceed the reduced capacity of the hitch it cannot be recommended. I've linked a commonly used multi purpose receiver # D210 from Curt that may be an option for you, but will also reduce your tongue weight, for your convenience.

Another option could be to use the 4Runners roof rack carry the bike.

If carrying the bike with the roof rack is an option your interested in, let me know and I can make some recommendations for you.
