Wiring Ground and Running Lights When Using Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter 118158

Question:

Im looking at the writeup on the 118158 brake/turn signal splitter. I have a Motor home with combined stop/turn lights and a Toyota 4Runner with separate stop and turn lights. The picture shows three wires input, one of which is ground. The output is also 3 wires, which are left and right turn and brake. What happened to the ground? If I use just the turn signals from this converter, will it still work properly? The brake lights are activated by the tow controller.

Expert Reply:

When wiring in Tow Ready Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter # 118158 the tow vehicle's combined stop/turn signals and ground do connect at the input side. The ground connection will be split at the input side to also allow it to be run over to the output side as well. The running light wire on the tow vehicle (usually a brown wire) will also bypass the converter since it does not require any processing. The linked image illustrates.
