Recommendation for a Hitch Mounted Ski Carrier on a BMW 428i Xdrive
Question:
Hi! I need a ski rack to attached to a trailer hitch on the back of my BMW 428i xdrive. Most go in roof but we need to use hitch. Do you have one or will they not work on the back of bmw xdrive convertible? Thanks for you help!

Good news, I have a solution for you.
While there are no ski/snowboard carriers specifically designed to mount in a hitch. With the use of a bike rack we can get your bike rack to double as a ski and snowboard carrier. The Thule Tram # TH9033 is a ski and snowboard carrier that will transform a hitch mounted bike rack into a ski and snowboard carrier.
First thing you would need, if you don't already have one, is a hitch for your BMW. If you can tell me the year vehicle you have, I'd be more than happy to recommend the right one for you. I looked up the 2015 BMW 428i xdrive and the curt hitch # C11367 is a 1-1/4 hitch that is a class one that has a tongue weight of 200 lbs. Your BMW's custom hitch will most likely be very similar in tongue weight and receiver size since it is a convertible.
Next we would need to find a bike rack that is compatible with the Thule Tram # TH9033. The Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is a bike rack that fits a class 1 trailer hitch, which is a common hitch on your type of BMW.
It is important to note that, if you do indeed have a class 1 hitch, that the Thule Helium will limit you to only carrying 2 bikes and the Tram will limit you to 4 skis and 2 snowboards. I have attached all the above mentioned parts for your convenience and a few videos of the racks in action.
