Recommendations for a Hitch and Bike Rack on a 2014 Kia Soul

Question:

Aloha, We are trying to order a system for our 2014 Kia Soul. We spoke with Ashley and sent us these part numbers: S63365,24915,S64029 While reading the reviews for the bike hitch, some people said that the rack itself was short and didnt work well for larger bikes. We have 3 standard bikes - not racing bikes or mountain bikes. considering the hitch and rack involved, do you think this system will handle all 3 bikes safely? Thank you for having such great customer service,

I can help you pick out a setup for your 2014 Kia Soul.

The Draw-tite hitch # 24915 you mentioned is the custom fit class 1 hitch for your 2014 Soul. This hitch has a max of 200 lbs. tongue weight and an 1-1/4 inches by 1-1/4 inches receiver opening. All Class 1 hitches have a capacity of 2 bikes only on the rack even if it is a 3 bike rack. My suggestion is to go with a roof rack setup for the third bike or a trunk mounted 3 bike rack.

As far as the Swagman # S63365, this bike rack would be a good option for you. The Trailhead has anti sway cradles and pull pins for the tilts. I've attached a 4 bike version on a 2012 Kia Soul for you to get a better idea of what it looks like on your vehicle.

Another bike rack that I like is the Thule Helium # TH9043PRO. This a light weight bike rack that integrates the hitch and bike lock into the rack. It also has anti sway cradles and easy trigger latches to fold and tilt the bike rack away from the hatch. I've attached a video of the Helium for you to check out.

Alternatively to traditional hitch mounted bike racks, you could go with a 3 bike trunk mounted rack like Thule # TH78VR or # TH56BV, this would be able to carry all three bikes no problem.

If any of your bike have alternative frames you may need a bike adapter bar like the # TH982XT to properly carry them.
