Why Would a Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Only Apply Partial Voltage When Light Braking
Question:
Have installed a Tekonsha P3 on a 1991 Toyota Landcruiser. Every seems fine however the manual over ride works fine and locks up the trailer however when I apply the foot brake the brake current is reading is about half the current of the manual over ride. I have checked the connect to the brake light and it reads 12 volts when brakes are applied? Any help would be appreciated?

The P3 is a proportional brake controller. It will only apply as much braking power as needed based on the amount of deceleration the tow vehicle is applying. If you were to just touch the brakes lightly the controller wouldn't really sense any braking activity so it would not apply the full voltage.
Now if you were to really stomp on the brakes the controller would then apply the higher amount of voltage to really apply the trailer's brakes.
Sounds like everything is working fine, but you can test the system by trying different braking pressures in an open parking lot to see how the controller functions. You should note different readings on the display with different braking pressures.
