Can the Pro Series Weight Distribution System with 750 Pound TW Be Upgraded to 1,000 Pound TW

Question:

We have a Pro-Series PS49582 750 TW. We upgraded to a Catalina 333 RETS and pull it with our 2015 F-250 Super Duty. The PS has everything meaning the Pro sway bar also. Instead of me purchasing a whole new unit I would like to change out the chain bars for a pair of PS58441. I really dont see why this cannot be done. Do you have any thoughts on just changing out the bars for the heavier ones? Also I was told to remove the friction sway bar when making tight turns, I had no idea until I read the information on your sight that the friction bar should be removed before backing up. The bar still works, its not bent, could I have possibly damaged it by not removing it all of the times Ive made a reverse move?

You can use the Replacement Round Bars for Pro Series Weight Distribution System, 1,000 Pounds # PS58441 to increase the capacity of your Pro Series Weight Distribution System with Friction Sway Control # PS49582 to a 1,000 pound tongue weight. I recommend checking your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight to ensure that the 1,000 pound tongue weight will work well for you.

If the chains from your current system are in good condition, you can use them with the # PS58441 spring bars. If you would like to replace the chains on your weight distribution system you can use part # 55630. This is a replacement chain for one side of the system.

It is recommended to remove any friction-style sway controls, like the Reese Sway Control, # 83660, before backing up to ease reversing and prevent damage to your system. When backing up, more tension is put on the friction bar than normal driving situations. Also, the sway control bar or the trailer frame could be damaged if there is too much tension on the bar when backing up, such as in a jackknife situation. This is the same logic that applies to removing the system in tight turns or when driving in slippery conditions.

Since your friction bar has no visible damage and is not bent, it is likely fine. If you want to replace the friction sway control bar in case it is damaged, you can use part # 83660.
