Tire Chains for a 2015 Nissan Titan PRO-4X
Question:
Hello - Owners manual for subject truck says S class chains OK on rear, no chains on front. Truck came with 275/70/18 tires. By dropping down to a 255/55/18 or a 255/45/18 tire, for emergency vehicle recovery use only, might I safely put S Class chains on the front?

Tire chains should be used on the main drive wheels of a vehicle which on a truck is almost always the rear wheels. Adding chains to the front will help with traction and braking but is not 100 percent necessary.
With that said you would need to run the plan by someone at Nissan or a tech at a Nissan dealer because they would be the only ones that could override the owner's manual. For 275/70R18 tires I recommend the Titan Cable Chain # TC3029.
The issue is most likely limited space between the inner sidewall and truck components. But if you used chains that did not wrap around to the inner sidewall then it would not be an issue. The only chains that can do that are Thule K-Summit chains such as # TH02230K66 for 255/55-18 tires. There are none for the 255/45-18 size.
If you decide to keep the 275/70-18 tires you have and only use chains on the rear then the Class S options, such as # PW3029C, are cable type chains. For these chains I also recommend tensioners # PW99 to keep the cables tight.
