Changing Tire and Wheel Size to Narrow Tear Trailer Track Width

Question:

Hi, I have a 1992 Jayco 12J and I am building a tear that will only be 8foot long x 6foot wide on the frame, I will be pulling this through the woods in Wa state behind a lifted Jeep TJ so I want to change the wheel and tire size to the maximum height, narrow the wheel by an inch and increase the backset by and inch so my track width is shortened. the current wheel size is 10x6 4 lug, the tire size is 205x80x10 Thanks for any direction you can give me.

It sounds like your best bet is going to be a 12 inch wheel with a 4.80-12 tire. The 12 inch rim has a width of 4 inches. With a 12 inch wheel, you will be able to gain tire diameter while also using a more narrow wheel. All of our tires have a 0 offset.

I recommend using the Kenda 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12 Inch White Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range C # AM30620. This tire has a section width of 4.8 inches and an overall outer diameter of 20.5 inches. The maximum load capacity of the tire is 990 pounds at 90 psi. I have attached a review video of this tire for you.

When looking for larger tires, you will want to keep tire clearance at the fender in mind. When checking for tire clearance at the fender, it is recommended to maintain 4-1/2 inches of clearance.
