Is Installation Kit, # ETBC7, Required on 2008 Dodge Ram if a Trailer Does Not Have Electric Brakes
Question:
Hi, I have a 2008 dodge ram 1500 long horn. Under my rear bumper there is a flat 4 prong connector. I believe it is from the factory. Do I need to connect the wires with this kit besides the 4 prong flat to 4 prong flat and the ground?? I dont have trailer brakes.

If you want to add a 7-Way for other functions other than electric brakes, you can use the ETBC7 kit. Your 4-flat plugs into the back. You would ground the white wire and the remaining wires can be hardwired or tied up and stowed out of the way until you need them.
To hardwire the remaining wires, use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to find the wire that carries the signal to the reverse lights. Attach it to the purple wire on the harness. You will then need to attach a length of wire to the black wire, and route it under the truck, avoiding areas that might pinch or burn the wire, up through the engine compartment, and over near the battery.
Mount a 40-amp circuit breaker and attach the wire to the silver post. Take another length of wire and contact it to the remaining post on the breaker and attach the other end to the positive battery terminal. The blue wire on the harness can be tucked out of the way. It is for electric brake output.
