Transmission Cooler for a 2013 GMC Yukon XL
Question:
I notice you guy are bypassing or upgrading to new tranny cooler. Why? Better cooling? 2 is better then 1? I have a 2013 GMC Xl and will be towing a 27ft camper. What i have read is a need tow package. Looks like the tow package is a tranny cooler. Any help would be great

The transmission coolers that we carry are meant as supplemental coolers to the factory cooler though some people do decide to bypass the factory cooler for any number of reasons.
The term tow package means different things to different manufacturers but it does often include a supplemental cooler. Adding a cooler is an inexpensive way to help get the most life out of your transmission, especially when towing.
Transmission coolers are not vehicle specific. However, if you happen to have a closed system (if there is no dipstick to check the transmission fluid and no where to add transmission fluid) then a professional installation is recommended. There is a special tool needed to open up a closed system and your local GM dealer should have it in their service department.
The most popular supplemental transmission cooler is # D13503. The best place to put a cooler is in front of the radiator and AC condenser core where it can get the most air flow. I have included a link to a video showing an example installation and a link to our help article on transmission coolers for you.
When we installed a cooler on the Chevy equivalent (Suburban) we had to use a few additional parts to complete the installation:
Derale Universal Bendable Metal Mount Kit # D13002
Derale High-Temperature Replacement Hose # D13003
Derale Stainless Steel Hose Clamps # D13008
Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting for GM # D13035
