The best way to get started on tire chains is to review your owner's manual. Volvo will tell you in the car's manual if your particular car is suitable for use with tire chains. Certain vehicle features can affect the fit of tire chains. ABS braking systems are one of the features on a passenger car like your 2000 Volvo V70, along with your tire size, that could potentially affect use of tire chains.

Its best to let the auto maker guide us in terms of chain use. I reviewed an online version of your car's manual and it indicates on page 89 that chains can be used on the front tires only. The compatible front tire sizes are 185/65R15 and 195/60R15.

If you manual says you can use chains then you can use the link provided to select your tire size. At the top of the page click on your tire size to then see suitable chains.

Let's say that you do have 195/60R15 front tires. In this case I recommend the Pewag Low Profile chains, part # PWSXP530. These chains feature rim protection and automatic tensioning. Please see the linked video for more.

Experience tells us that better chains that include these kinds of features will tend to get used a lot more than bargain chains. Let's face it: if its a pain to install the chains they will tend not to be used and therefore do you no good at all. I recommend investing in better chains like the Thules that have these advanced features.

These and all tire chains should not be operated at speeds of more than 30-mph and never on clear pavement.
