Is Custom Wedge Needed for Reese Sidewinder Pin Box # RP61422 Used with 18K Reese 5th Wheel Head
Question:
I have your 5th airborne sidewinder and just installed. I also have a 18K reese custom head supplied by ford on my ford f250. When I installed the supplied universal wedge it did not seem quite right. I tapped in with a hammer while hooked up. The jaw hangs up and would not release so I backed out slitly and it seemed to work. On the test run it felt like something was falling over in curves. Do I need one of your custom wedges?

I see that you recently purchased a Reese Sidewinder # RP61422. Thank you for doing business with etrailer.
You will find a better fit if you use a custom wedge with your Reese Elite Series hitch. Custom wedge part # SWW-01 from Reese is designed for your specific application. This will give you a better fit at the hitch jaws and prevent them from binding. The instructions for this item are linked for your reference. You may still need to use a mallet or hammer to coax the wedge into position.
Be sure to follow the installation safety precautions noted in the instructions.
