Easy to Use Trunk Mount Bike Carrier for a 2005 Toyota Prius

Question:

I am a 71 year old woman who travels extensively by bike. Id like not to have to lift it into the back of my 2005 Prius. Id like an easy to mount and store bike rack. Which would you recommend

We have numerous trunk mount bike carriers that will fit your 2005 Toyota Prius, see link to the right. But for a rack that is the easiest to install/remove and use I recommend the Thule OutWay # TH45JV.

This rack uses just 2 rubber coated straps instead of 6 straps like other racks so it is very easy to install and remove. Also, it folds relatively flat so it is easy to store. The rack also features locks to lock the rack to the vehicle and a cable lock to lock the bike in the last position to deter theft.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wife's bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my son's bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
