Right-hand Electric Drum Brake assembly For Trail-Lite Bantam Travel Trailer
Question:
I have a Trail-Lite Bantam 17foot hybrid TT. I need a new brake assembly for the rt side because there are no insides /guts there now. The brake drum inside diameter is about 10. I dont know the axle weight specs but if the brake drum inside diameter is about 10, can I assume that I have a 3500# axle? What would you recommend as an appropriate new brake assembly? Also, is it necessary to have the old brake drum turned? Are all TT brake mounting flange center to center bolt patterns the same for this weight axle? Mine is about 2 13/16.

The right-hand electric drum brakes we offer for 3500-lb axles are the 10 x 2-1/4-inch size. These are offered in manual-and self-adjust types that can be seen on the linked page. For example, for a self-adjusting right brake you can use Dexter # AKEBRK-35R-SA or part # AKEBRK-35R for a manual adjust brake. These fit a 4-bolt brake flange with holes spaced 2-7/8-inches on center.
Your axle should have a sticker indicating its weight rating. You'll want to ensure you know the capacity of the axle to make sure the brake you install is rated appropriately. I think chances are very good that you do have a 3500-lb axle but it is better to check to be sure before ordering your brake.
As long as your drum's inner surface is not nicked, scored or discolored from heat you should not need to have it turned. If in doubt you can show it to a local shop to ensure it is safe for continued use.
