Recommended Anti-Sway Bar for Forest River 30DS FR3

Question:

We are trying to find a way to make our Forrest River 30DS FR3 on a 2014 Ford F-53 chassis safe to drive and information is scarce. We are hoping to find some way to prevent the FR3 from lurching toward the shoulder when a truck approaches from the rear in the passing lane and then suddenly veering back the other way as the passing truck goes by. We call this zigzag behavior and it is so bad that a driver can not reach for a drink in the cup holder for fear of losing control. Driving the FR3 is stressful and driver fatigue is a big problem. We took the FR3 to a Ford Heavy Truck garage because of the handling problem and loud noises that made us think the Kwikee steps were coming loose. All they did was tighten the front shock nuts which got rid of the noise but did not improve the handling. We asked about adjustments to the factory anti-sway bars and after an investigation they said there are no adjustments available. Anything you care to say about the Roadmaster system, how well it solves this zig zag problem and other suspensions modifications you may know about would be very much appreciated. Thanks

The best solution for the problem you are experiencing is an anti-sway bar. An anti-sway bar will help with the side-to-side movement, or zigzag, you are experiencing. They are designed to help keep the motorhome going straight down the road

If you are interested in Roadmaster, the anti-sway bar I recommend for you is the Rear Anti-Sway Bar for Motor Homes # RM-1139-146. This bar is designed to help assist the factory sway bar, not replace it. This anti-sway bar fits coaches with 15,700, 16,000, and 18,000 GVWR. This bar mounts to the bottom of the axle and measures 1-1/2 inches in diameter. Roadmaster is a very well-know manufacturer in the steering stabilization industry.

The bar will greatly help with the issues your are experiencing. Rut tracking, jarring, and rear-end sway are going to be greatly reduced.

I just a 2017 Fr30ds horrible to handle. I installed front and rear sway bars and backed it up with sumo springs a world of difference

I'm really glad the sway bars and springs helped out as much as they did. They seem to be borderline required for a lot of motorhomes. Unfortunately RV manufacturers tend to forget about ride comfort when building up the chassis suspension!
