Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring that Locks Up Trailer Brakes When Connected
Question:
When i hook up my 7 pin all lights seem to work but the electric brakes are on the trailer. When i unhook and use a 4 pin adapter all works but of course the electric brakes dont. In the pictures you see from left to right my truck 7 pin connector pulled out in the 12:00 position. Next is the diagram from the RV dealer showing how the trailer plug is wired and lastly the diagram on the cover of my truck 7 pin. Is therer somthing im not seeing here? Should the EB and GD on the trailer plug be on top? Please help

It sounds like the 12 volt accessory circuit and the brake output circuit are wired backwards and that is why the trailer brakes lock up whenever you connect the 7-way on your vehicle to your trailer.
What I would recommend you do is use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test for voltage on each of the pins as a buddy applies the various turn signal circuits and brakes and then compare that to the 7-way diagram I attached. If it all checks out then the problem is the trailer wiring being off.
