Recommended Method to Transport Kayak and 4 Bikes on 2015 Ford F-150

Question:

Hello. Do you know of a similar product to the DTA944-968-924 that incorparates a bike rack hauling feature? I wish to haul 2-4 bikes as well as my kayak.

Hitch-mount load extenders like the Darby Extend-A-Truck Kayak Carrier # DTA944-968-924 do not include a built-in bike carrier feature nor are they suited to any add-on carriers.

However, you can install a 2-inch front-mount hitch # C31068 in your 2015 F-150 and place either the Darby carrier or a hitch-mount bike rack in that front hitch while keeping the other item in the rear hitch. Or if you happen to have available space in the bed of your truck you could use the Darby in either a front- or rear-mount hitch along with a truck-bed-mount bike carrier. Using the Darby up front is preferable as this will have less impact on your engine cooling and headlight projection than a loaded 4-bike rack.

For example, Topline offers a cost-effective expandable truck-bed-mounted rack # UG2500. You can add additional bike capacity using 2 of their Add-A-Bike Assembly # AB2600. This system works on trucks that do NOT have an OEM bedrail track system that prevents access to the underside of the truck bed side rail. Please refer to the linked video showing rack installation.

If you prefer a hitch-mount 4-bike rack for the rear hitch you can choose either a platform-style rack like the # HR1400Z. Two linked articles will help you consider the best match for your bikes and the link to our page for 4-bike racks will let you see all options.
