Can a Tandem Axle Trailer Be Built with the Axles Mounted Independently of Each Other
Question:
I have been thinking about building a tandem axle car hauler. The suspension question that I have is why cant you mount two [tandem] axles independent from each other like a semi trailer? Meaning that you leave the equalizer out.

There are certain axles that can be mounted independently of each other on a tandem axle trailer. Torsion axles and Timbren Axle-less systems fit the bill because they mount independently. Leaf spring axles though would require spacing the axles too far apart and that would cause tire wear problems. The biggest issue would be the front axle tires dragging on the ground (scrubbing) when turning because of the increased distance between axles.
Torsion axles and Timbren systems can be mounted closer together so the distance between the axles is not excessive. I have included a link to the Timbren systems for you.
