Davit Winch Recommendation for Davitmaster 1850

Question:

I live in Bermuda, and currently have a Davitmaster 1850 lb seawall mount davit on an exposed dock, which I use to launch a small dinghy with an outboard total weight around 600-700 lb by lowering it about 6 feet to the water. Each winter the remote control gets broken by the weather, and this year the corrosion has completely jammed up the drum. The actual davit is fine. So I am looking to replace the motor and drum assembly with the most corrosion-resistant one available. A remote control would be nice but not essential, and I would have to be either able to detach it or store it out of the weather about 15-20 feet from the davit. Alternatively a weatherproof rocker switch on the housing would work. My intention is to have a weatherproof cover made for the winch to put over it when it is not in use. What make and size of winch would you suggest I consider? I can pick it up in the US to take to Bermuda myself.

For your Davitmaster setup the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Davit Winch w/ Remote # DL25032 would be your best option. Compact for use in tight spaces, this electric winch is perfect for davits in and near saltwater. Winch works anywhere AC power is available; includes a remote with an Load/Unload function and a GFCI cord to protect your wiring from water damage.

For a cover you would then want the part # DL24051.
