How To Install A Tekonsha Prodigy Brake Controller, # 90195, On A 2006 Hummer H3 With Factory 7 Way

Question:

I want to install a Prodigy P-3 controller on my 2006 H3,the truck is factory wired with a 7-pin trailer wiring harness. Does the controller have to be hard wired or is there a quick connect? A diagram or video would also be very helpful as I have never done one before.

On your 2006 Hummer H3 with the factory 7 Way trailer connector, you do not have a brake controller port under the dash.

You will use the wiring harness that comes with the Tekonsha Prodigy P-3 Brake Controller, # 90195. The one end plugs into the port on the back of the brake controller and the other end are four wires (Black, Red, White and Blue) that will need to be connected to the bundle of wires under your dash.

The bundle is usually taped up in one of three places underneath the dash. Sometimes it is next to the center console by the gas pedal, sometimes it is above the emergency foot brake by the door and other times it is behind the plastic kick panel just to the left of the emergency foot brake.

The bundle of five wires are, Red, Black, Brown, Light Blue, Dark Blue. The brown wire will not be used.

Ground: Black wire on the bundle of wires goes to the white wire on the brake controller harness.
12 Volt Power: Red wire on the bundle goes to the black wire on the brake controller harness.
Brake Lights: Light Blue wire on the bundle goes to the red wire on the brake controller harness.
Trailer Brakes: Dark Blue wire on the bundle goes to the blue wire on the brake controller harness.

I am sending a link to brake controller information page.

The instructions that come with the brake controller will show you how to mount it and adjust it. I will also send a link to the instructions so you can see what is involved.

The video link I am sending will show you how to find the bundle of wires under your dash. It is on a 2008 GMC Sierra, which is a similar application.
