What is the Ideal Truck for Towing a Fifth Wheel Trailer  

Question:

Hi We have a Nissan titan that has been pulling our 33 ft keystone 5th wheel with no problem , but we have now purchased a 39 ft 5th wheel and our Nissan will not pull 14000. lbs, we are wondering what truck is best to pull our new trailer and what size box should we look at and are we best to buy a diesel. We are looking at the dodge ram 2500 2011 yr up too 2015 year, Just need some expert advise before we buy another truck Thanks

This is kind of a hard question to answer. For the best possible towing experience I would recommend a 1 ton, diesel, dually, with a long bed. If you can buy a truck with those options you would have an ideal setup.

You could probably get away with a 3/4 ton, non-dually gas model with a short bed. But you will have to look at the towing capacities for the truck and determine if it would have the capacity. A gas model will burn more fuel and a short bed would require the use of a slider hitch which can be a hassle, but it should be do-able as long as you have the capacity.

Personally I prefer the Chevy/GMC trucks as they are reliable and have great towing capacities. But there are several opinions on brands of trucks.
